Hi everyone! My name is Chris and I perform How to Be a Better Human!

11th August is our Relaxed Performance. This means you will be able to leave and come back if you need to. The lights will stay on slightly, and the loud noises will be quieter. It is fine to make sounds or move if you need to.

I will introduce myself at the start of the show. Here’s a bit more about what will happen:

When the show starts, you will hear some loud, cheesy music and see a slide that looks like this. The show is pretending to be a Ted Talk - a speech helping people learn how to be “Better Humans.” It is supposed to be funny. Sometimes I will swear.

There will be some loud noises in the show. You will hear the sound of glass cracking, some thudding sounds and an explosion. There will also be the sound of an oxygen machine and some music.

In the show I talk about what my life was like in 2019. Sometimes I use images that look very fake - like the one above which is supposed to be my wife!

Sometimes I use real family photos - like this one of my dad.

And sometimes I use photos like this one of a hospital, to show where the story is taking place.

I will be on stage for most of the show. Sometimes i will talk to the audience, like this picture. Sometimes I will perform poems into a microphone. On stage with me is a garden chair, which represents my dad.

As well as being funny, the show is very sad. In 2019 my dad became very ill and died. It is ok to laugh during the performance, and it is ok to cry. I am ok - making the show helped me come to terms with dad dying, so you don’t need to worry about me.

In the middle of the show there is an animation about my dad dying. It is about how he loved his garden, and how it feels to lose someone. It has music and the words appear on-screen.

At the end of the show, you will be able to talk to me and ask any questions about the poems or the story. If you would like to ask questions before the show - you can email me on chris@bravewords.co.uk.
