MUTTON copy.png

Witchcraft. Drunk policemen. Chariots pulled by cats. The young offenders of 1893. Cons, crime and hens’ bottoms.

MUTTON tells the surreal-but-true story of  Yorkshire witch and con artist Mary Bateman, in a dark ensemble comedy that examines what it means to be from “Dirty Leeds.”

At what point does “mischief” become “murder?” How does desperation make us gullible? And what happens when you steal from a butcher?

MUTTON is in early stages of development. It was originally conceived in residency with Leeds Playhouse and Leeds Libraries in Summer 2019 and further developed through Freedom Studios' "Introduction to Playwriting" in 2020.
